Apple Gingerbread Bars Topping Ground Cinnamon 1 small Sweet apple, unpeeled, cut Cake 3/4 cup of all-purpose flour 3/4 cup of whole wheat flour 1 teaspoon of baking powder 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda 1 teaspoon of ground ginger 1/8 teaspoon of ground cloves 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon 2 Egg whites 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract 1/4 cup of molasses 2 tablespoons + 2 tsp. vegetable oil 1 1/2 cups of applesauce - unsweetened

Instructions: Preheat oven to 350ºF. Using a 9 x 13 baking pan - lightly oil OR spray with a nonstick cooking spray. Liberally sprinkle cinnamon in bottom of pan. Arrange apple slices over the cinnamon evenly. Combine both flours, baking powder, baking soda and spices in a large bowl and mix well. In another bowl ~ combine remaining ingredients. With either a fork or wire whisk - beat until well blended. Add to dry mixture and mix just until all ingredients are moist. Spread batter over apple slices evenly. Bake for 25 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Place pan on wire rack and cool for 3 minutes - then invert onto a serving plate. For best flavor - serve warm. Each serving provides: 92 calories, 2 g protein, 3 g fat, 16 g carbohydrate, 61 mg sodium, 0 mg cholesterol.
